An ECS Halloween Story Part Three

Introducing our third and final Halloween themed story..

Not all cartridges are created equal, especially when it comes to compatible toner cartridges...

Before you or your client places their next compatible toner cartridge into their printer/copier, have you checked the cartridge itself down to the smallest detail? That includes who produced it, where, and how.

If you haven't, you could be in for a nasty surprise.

Some of these compatible cartridges are quite literally the devil in disguise, and can end up doing unspeakable things to your copiers, printers and MFP's, including damage to the inner workings of the device and producing poor quality prints, as well as causing irreversible damage to the environment once they're disposed of.

While on the surface, some compatible products may look like the genuine article, but dig a little deeper, and the difference can become only too apparent - it will only be a short amount of time before they sink their teeth into you or your copier and show their true colours.

Here are some of the things to look out for when it comes to these devils in disguise:
  • A spooky appearance (Some compatible toner cartridges can look nothing like an OEM equivalent cartridge, making it difficult to even distinguish what colour cartridge it is
  • Poorly disguised markings (Don't be fooled! Some compatible toner cartridges can have markings in an attempt to give themselves a more appealing OEM-like appearance)
  • Making disturbing noises (Many poorly made compatibles have a weaker toner discharge mechanism, reducing toner flow)
  • Refusing to act in a normal way, or behaving mysteriously (Low quality compatibles can be difficult to fit and remove from devices)
  • Claws (Weak drive gears)
  • Teeth (Interior chip designs can be fixed in place, reducing the chip contact patch)
  • A slimy surface (Compatibles which lack a spiral engraved design and are instead smooth can lead to reduced toner flow)
  • A poisonous coating (Poorly made, often illegal compatible cartridges are produced using plastics which contain harmful chemicals)
  • Lulling you into a false sense of security (Be careful your compatible cartridges don't infringe upon patents; a large majority do, these little devils get you into all sorts of trouble)
